A horrifying incident exposes the depths of inhumanity, illiteracy, patriarchal society, and over all conditions of women in India.
In Hamirpur (UP) a tragic incident unfolded as a newlywed woman passed away merely seven days after her wedding, allegedly due to her husband’s consumption of sex enhancement pills on their first night in Uttar Pradesh. Following the couple’s wedding night, the woman’s health deteriorated, leading to her admission to a private hospital in Kanpur. Despite efforts, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment three days later.
The couple had solemnized their union on February 3, with the woman being hospitalized on February 7 and her demise occurring on February 10. The victim’s husband, a professional engineer, reportedly ingested the pills on their wedding night. In a formal complaint to Superintendent of Police Deeksha Sharma, the victim’s relatives asserted that the accused coerced the woman into an unnatural physical relationship after consuming the sex enhancement pills. The grieving family is calling for severe action against the man and his family.
Millions of women in India live under various forms of privilege deprivation, including the inability to choose their life partners. The prevalence of a patriarchal system in the country contributes to this issue. Cases like this, where newlywed girls face unheard challenges, are unfortunately a part of a broader societal problem. It underscores the need for addressing and dismantling the deeply rooted patriarchal norms that limit women’s agency and voices in important life decisions.

Recently, there was a controversial ad in India featuring Ranveer Singh and Johnny Sins promoting a sex enhancement pill. The question arises: “Is our society genuinely prepared for this type of advertisement without adequate sexual literacy?”
In my opinion, the answer is NO. A significant portion of our population is not well-educated, and they may not comprehend the significance and necessity of such medications. While discussing these matters is essential, advertising sex enhancement medicines without proper sex education, dismantling patriarchal norms, promoting respect for women, and educating men on how to engage respectfully with their partners could lead to potential issues. These broader societal aspects need attention before such advertisements can be responsibly embraced.
